As Prabhupada and his philosophy are making impact on the modern world, materialists are starting to mount opposition, and they try to portait Prabhupada as terrorist, amongst other things.
While it is natural to to try defeat people who you don’t agree with, I am amazed how devotees don’t care or know to mount opposition.
Reason for that is that many of them are disciples of Ramesh sannyasi with a girlfriend or ping pong acarya. So, if you accept bogus guru, that means you don’t know philosophy of Krishna consciousness and naturally you will not be able to defend it.
As you can see on the photo, opponents misquoted Prabhupada, instead of Prabhupada’s words, they put words of crazy fellow Hansadutta who “paraphrased” Prabhupada. So, first thing in defeating materialists is to obtain actual quote and to see the context. Since they are mentioning in the photo Morning walk - Vrindavana March 15, 1974, let’s see what Prabhupada really said:
Prabhupāda: When there will be military march of Kṛṣṇa conscious soldiers, anyone who does not believe in Kṛṣṇa, “Blam!” [laughter] Yes. The same process as the Muhammadans did with sword and Koran, we’ll have to do that. “Do you believe in Kṛṣṇa or not?” “No, sir.” “Blam!” Finished. [laughter; Prabhupāda laughs] What do you think, Madhudviṣa Mahārāja? Is that all right? Morning walk - Vrindavana March 15, 1974
If you listen to the actual mp3 which is available on the above link, you can see that Prabhupada and his disciples are constantly laughing while Prabhupada talks about “Hare Krishna soldiers”.
Srila Prabhupada is follower of Caitanya Mahāprabhu, and Caitanya Mahāprabhu’s mission was to reform materialists, not to kill them.
Translation: Lord Caitanya ordered, “Go perform saṅkīrtana! Today I shall kill all the Muslims!”
Purport: Gandhi is known for having started the movement of nonviolent civil disobedience in India, but about five hundred years before him, Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu started His movement of nonviolent civil disobedience to the order of Chand Kazi. It is not necessary to commit violence to stop the opposition from hindering a movement, for one can kill their demoniac behavior with reason and argument. Following in the footsteps of Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu, whenever there are obstacles the Hare Kṛṣṇa movement should kill the opposition with reason and argument and thus stop their demoniac behavior. If we became violent in every case, it would be difficult for us to manage our affairs. We should therefore follow in the footsteps of Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu, who disobeyed the order of Chand Kazi but subdued him with reason and argument. CC Adi 17.130
Therefore, Srila Prabhupada emphasises fighting materialists with reason and argument.
Similar verse is present earlier in the chapter:
“I have appeared in this incarnation to kill the demons [pāṣaṇḍīs] and, after killing them, to preach the cult of devotional service.”
Lord Caitanya’s mission is the same as that of Lord Kṛṣṇa, which He states in the Bhagavad-gītā (4.7-8): yadā yadā hi dharmasya glānir bhavati bhārata abhyutthānam adharmasya tadātmānaḿ sṛjāmy aham paritrāṇāya sādhūnāḿ vināśāya ca duṣkṛtām dharma-saḿsthāpanārthāya sambhavāmi yuge yuge “Whenever and wherever there is a decline in religious practice, O descendant of Bharata, and a predominant rise of irreligion — at that time I descend Myself. In order to deliver the pious and to annihilate the miscreants, as well as to reestablish the principles of religion, I advent Myself millennium after millennium”
As explained here, the real purpose of an incarnation of Godhead is to kill the atheists and maintain the devotees. He does not say, like so many rascal incarnations, that atheists and devotees are on the same platform. Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu, or Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa, the real Personality of Godhead, does not advocate such an idea.
Atheists are punishable, whereas devotees are to be protected. To maintain this principle is the mission of all avatāras, or incarnations. One must therefore identify an incarnation by His activities, not by popular votes or mental concoctions. Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu gave protection to devotees and killed many demons in the course of His preaching work. He specifically mentioned that the Māyāvādī philosophers are the greatest demons. Therefore He warned all others not to hear the Māyāvāda philosophy: māyāvādi-bhāṣya śunile haya sarva-nāśa. Simply by hearing the Māyāvāda interpretation of the śāstras, one is doomed (Cc. Madhya 6.169). CC Adi 17.53
As we know from history, Caitanya Mahāprabhu was present in this world from 1486 till 1533, and there is no record that he actually killed anybody, therefore “killing” explained in this verse refers to killing of misconceptions and Sri Caitanya indeed had many philosophical discussions with his opponents, defeating them every time.
Age of hypocracy
So, Hare Krishna movement didn’t ever perform any terrorist acts in 50 years of it’s history, although members of Hare Krishna movement were harrased many times, especially in the ex Soviet union.
The same people who want to explain that “killing is our business” altough we never killed anybody, often miss to complain about real killers who are ready to kill other people to establish their belief system.
And here, I am not talking only about ISIS, I am also talking about other countries, they are ready to kill people to establish what they believe in, namely democracy, gay rights and feminism.
So, body count just in Iraq is over 100 000 people dead, just to “establish democracy” and “relieve people of evil dictator”. Well, while establishing democracy, they killed many more people than evil dictator ever did.
Coincedentally, free and liberal countries always seems to be interested in “establishing democracy” by killing hundreds of thousands of people in the countries which are rich in resources.
And for those who attack Prabhupada often fail to address this problem, rather they attack Prabhupada who never killed anybody.
Not only that Prabhupada never killed anybody, rather, Prabhupada gave the real reason why all the wars are fought on much deeper level and how to solve them. He explained that as long as people kill animals, there will be wars as a karmic reaction to those deeds.
